One Room Challenge – The Nursery

I’m excited to participate again in the amazing One Room Challenge, and I’m going to do my best to try and complete this. I say that because the room I want to create is a nursery for my newborn son. My schedule is not quite mine anymore, and my world revolves around him right now. With that being said, it really is a dream come true to create a nursery for my child. The challenging part is creating this within the six week time frame that the One Room Challenge requires, but that’s the fun part, right?! It’s challenging enough without caring for a newborn, but I hope you’ll join me as I embark on this wild ride! Please go check out all of the other amazing participants. Thanks again to Linda, of Calling it Home, for creating this incredible challenge. I also want to recognize Better Homes and Gardens for being the awesome media partner. You can check it all out on the One Room Challenge blog.

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I had ideas for both a girl or boy nursery. When I started researching and planning I felt like doing a girl’s room was a little bit easier, or there were at least more options. Although, once I started scheming a room for my son, I realized I’m really enjoying getting in touch with my masculine side. I really wanted to take my time and enjoy the process, so I knew I wouldn’t really start or finish until after he was here. He pretty much lives in our room anyway, so I knew there was no rush. When I remembered the One Room Challenge would be starting soon, I thought that would be a good time to really get going on doing the nursery.  My goal is to create a more sophisticated boys room that will grow with him over the years. Something not too babyish, but fun, if you know what I mean! Here are some pictures of rooms that I found inspiring.

So, there are some of the nurseries and boys rooms that I found inspiring for different reasons. I have been really drawn to different textures and a definite masculine color palette. I also knew I wanted to do some sort of wallpaper. I love a good wallpaper and this was the perfect spot for my indulgence. Here is a sneak peek at some of the contenders.

Here is the before picture of the room that will soon become the nursery. It was originally one of our guest rooms that I hadn’t gotten around to designing. In the back of my mind, I knew it would eventually become a nursery, so I didn’t want to do too much to it. Nothing exciting to look at, I know.

Here it is with everything moved out! A definite blank canvas!

You can see my pile of wallpaper samples in the first picture! Lots and lots of samples went into my wallpaper selection. I’m almost embarrassed at the number I ordered, but not really. This room has been so fun for me. Stay tuned next week for my design plan and some of the selections I’ve made so far! This is when it starts getting good!

  1. Love wallpapers and what a great selection you have there. can’t wait to see which one(s) made the cut over the next couple of weeks. That NB nursery is one of my favourite spaces ever!

    • Thank you so much Tim! I’m posting all about the wallpaper and the design plan. I just saw that you are doing a beautiful textured wallpaper too. I’ll go find you on IG and follow along your blog. So glad we could connect!
